Another Residential Building Proposed for Chicago’s Busy West Loop Neighborhood

Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood continues to be a hot choice for residential developers. A recent story by Curbed Chicago provides more evidence as it details plans for yet another residential mid-rise building planned for this neighborhood.

The new building, being called “The Gladys Apartments,” would bring 69 rental units to 315 S. Jefferson St. and rise 10 stories in the air. The development wouldn’t sit too far from Chicago’s busy Union Station.

Curbed said that developer JAB Real Estate’s project would feature walls primarily made of glass on the east and west ends of the building.

There won’t be much parking here, though. Curbed Chicago reports that the Gladys will have just five parking spaces for cars plus spaces for 48 bicycles. That might not be a problem as the building is designed to be a transit-oriented development. The residential development will be located near plenty of public transit options, so many of the residents living here might not even be using cars.

Plans call, too, for about 1,300 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

The Gladys is not going to rise soon, though. The project still needs to earn approval from the city. As the Curbed Chicago story said, there is not yet any official construction start date from JAB.

The proposal, though, is more evidence that the city’s West Loop neighborhood has become one of the hottest housing markets in Chicago. People want to live here, and they want to experience the urban lifestyle while doing so.

The best news for buyers or renters? The West Loop is just one of many Chicago neighborhoods that can provide this lifestyle. There are many Chicago communities filled with restaurants, bars, parks, shops and public transit options.
