Indoor/Outdoor Living More Popular in Chicago

People are spending more time these days enjoying the outdoor spaces of their homes. That’s why it’s little surprise that a developer building a new condominium in Chicago’s River North neighborhood is spending so much time on its outdoor features.

Crain’s Chicago Business recently ran a feature story on the new development. The project, dubbed the Bentham and located at Erie and LaSalle streets, will feature as many outdoor amenities as indoor ones.

First, every unit will come with a spacious roofed terrace. Buyers here can choose to have these terraces come with a fold-away glass door separating the building’s indoors from its outdoors.

As the Crain’s story quotes one real estate professional, when owners open those glass doors, it’ll be difficult for them to know whether they’re inside their units or outside them.

The Bentham also comes with similar foldaway doors on its two main top-floor amenities, the building’s gym and community room. Again, this will provide the building’s residents with more open-air living options.

This type of living has proven popular. Crain’s reports that about 30 percent of the Bentham’s 31 units are already under contract. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2018.
