MG Group Spotlight: Jeb Davis
With a passion for building relationships, Jeb Davis always knew in the back of his mind that real estate would be where he ended up. These days, after starting what he calls his “second act,” Jeb couldn’t be happier fulfilling his desire to help others find their forever homes at MG Group. Get to know Jeb a little more in our newest team member spotlight:
How did you get involved in the real estate business?
One of the things about real estate that always piqued my curiosity is that it’s constantly changing. And because I also have family in the business, I learned early on that a career in real estate is as much about the people as it is about the houses.
When I started a corporate job after college, I assumed my interest in real estate would wane. But if anything, it grew — especially after moving to Chicago nine years ago. I always felt that I should give it a shot, but the timing never felt right. And if the last couple of years taught me anything, it’s that we have to design a life we love, otherwise what’s the point? So that’s what I did. After 12 years in corporate marketing, I made a change. So my “second act” has been the best kind of roller coaster so far. I’ve learned a ton from this team and am enjoying the ride.
How long have you been at MG Group? What have you learned from your time at MG?
I’ve been with the Group for just over a year. In that time, I’ve learned more from this team than I could ever share here. But one thing that stands out is the importance of clear and consistent communication. For most people, a home sale or purchase is the largest financial decision they’ll make. When the stakes are that high, you must understand each client’s goals and be with them every step of the way.
What keeps you passionate about what you do?
The same thing that drew me to this career in the first place: People. I take a lot of pride in being the person my clients trust when they’re ready to buy or sell their home.
How does MG Group stand out from other teams, in the Chicago area or even nationwide?
Clients look to our team because we have a reputation built on professionalism. It’s been a welcome challenge living up to what clients have come to expect from MG Group.
What accomplishments are you most proud of with MG Group?
Like most agents, I helped my clients navigate a challenging year in 2021. That included helping four of my buyers win in multiple offer scenarios and achieving a consistent 5-star rating across Zillow.com, Realtor.com, and Yelp. And having sold $5.3 million in my first year certainly helps keep me motivated too.
What trends are you seeing in the Chicago residential market that are most interesting these days, or in looking forward to throughout the year?
Super low interest rates and the pandemic (which made everyone realize they needed more living space) continue to drive more buyers into the home buying market. Combine that with low inventory and we’re already seeing another year of significant competition for buyers. I’m interested to see how fed rate increases help balance that equation. I suspect it will slightly help by removing some buyers from the market. We’ll see if it’s enough to drastically tip the scales away from sellers, but I’m skeptical.
