Celebrating the Holidays in Chicago
Even with the holidays still not completely back to normal this year, there are many ways to celebrate with friends and family in the city. Here are a few of the most festive ways you can celebrate the holidays in Chicago this year:
Explore the Festive Markets
One of the city’s most beloved traditions, Chicago’s Christkindlmarket, is celebrating its 27th anniversary this season. The favorite stop can be found in three locations this year, in Aurora, IL, at Daley Plaza downtown and Gallagher Way in Wrigleyville. Visitors can enjoy a variety of traditional holiday dishes that include German beer, brats, pretzels and delicious danishes, and numerous exclusive local and international vendors selling handmade gifts. Don’t miss out on the special occasion filled with festive music, bright lights and entertainment galore.
Witness a Classic Performance
It wouldn’t be a Chicago December if you didn’t see The Nutcracker at the Joffrey Ballet. This Chicago must is a twist on the classic performance that celebrates the history and culture of the city. Each show is sure to transport you into another world as you are captivated by the orchestra’s performance of Tchaikovsky and wowed by the amazing dancers that fill the stage. Shows run through December 26, and tickets can be bought here.
Illuminate Your Night
The fun doesn’t end when the sun goes down; vibrant festive lights cover buildings and nature across the city, including at the legendary Lincoln Park Zoo Lights. The exhibition, filled with hundreds of holiday light displays, is back this year with new features, including its alluring Enchanted Forest experience and an 18-foot Christmas tree. The beloved holiday tradition is only $7-10 for admission, excluding Mondays, which are free for visitors, and runs through the beginning of January.
Even though the winters can feel long in Chicago, there are a variety of ways you can celebrate the holidays throughout the city and bring a little light into your life. From our team to your household, we hope you have a healthy and happy time celebrating the holidays this year!
